Are videos recorded with the iPhone compatible with Zubtitle?

Videos recorded with the iPhone are compatible with Zubtitle, though they may present some complications. Read more below to resolve these complications if you run into an issue or receive an error while attempting to upload your video recorded with your iPhone to Zubtitle.

The camera app on the iPhone with its default settings may record videos with the HEVC codec. Unfortunately, that codec is not widely supported yet. If this is the case, you would need to use Safari to upload that video to Zubtitle since that is the only browser that supports HEVC videos at this time,

If you want to prevent your iPhone from recording with the HEVC encoder and make it default to MP4 videos, you would need to change the settings in your camera app to record in Compatible mode.

You can do that with these instructions:

  1. Go to Settings > Camera.
  2. Tap Formats.
  3. Tap Most Compatible. This setting is available only on devices that can capture media in HEIF or HEVC format, and only when using iOS 11 or later.
  4. All new photos and videos will now use JPEG or H.264 format. To return to using the space-saving HEIF and HEVC formats, choose High Efficiency.
