Which aspect ratio is best for social media?

Each social media platform has different requirements for video sizes.  This article explains which aspect ratio is best for each social media platform.

Facebook
Facebook can accept the 16:9, 4:5, and 1:1 aspect ratios.  The 4:5 aspect ratio is the best option, though the 1:1 aspect ratio can be used to save time creating and styling one video that can be used for Facebook, Twitter, and the Instagram feed.

Twitter
The 1:1 and 4:5 aspect ratios are best for Twitter.

LinkedIn
LinkedIn requires the 4:5 or 16:9 aspect ratios.

YouTube
YouTube requires the 16:9 aspect ratio.

Instagram
Instagram can be tricky to create a video for.

The Instagram Feed requires videos in the 1:1 aspect ratio that are 60 seconds or less.

If your video is longer than 60 seconds, you would need to use the 9:16 aspect ratio and post your video to Instagram Stories or IGTV.  Instagram will crop your video to a 1:1 aspect ratio automatically to display videos posted to Stories or IGTV on the feed, though, so it is best to try and  ensure that your content is as close to the center square of the video as possible. The top and bottom of your video will be cropped in 9:16 videos by Instagram automatically.

TikTok
TikTok requires the 9:16 format.

If you need to resize a video multiple times for different social media platforms, you are able to copy videos to easily resize them instead of editing the same video multiple times. This article will show you how.
